Reno Behavioral Healthcare Adolescent Inpatient Review

Adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17 can receive comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care at the brand new Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital. Treatment is for young people who have problems with mental health or substance abuse. The programs are highly structured and incorporate traditional and modern approaches. In the adolescent inpatient track, clients can expect a good amount of education, therapy and recreation. The safe and secure environment allows for residents to work through their issues with the support of experienced staff who are available 24 hours a day.

Accommodations and Food

Adolescent clients reside within the 80,000 square foot, state of the art facility in an entirely separate wing than the adult clients. In total there are 124 beds in the hospital, with about 21 of the beds being reserved for young clients. The adolescents have separate meal times as well.

Clients are placed in double occupancy rooms and have access to campus common areas. This includes a large gymnasium where basketball, yoga and other group sports take place.

The cafeteria serves three meals a day. There are several options at meal time. Healthy snacks are available throughout the day as well. The staff dietitian prepares all menus and a professional kitchen staff prepares the food.

Cell phones and tablets are not allowed while in treatment. There are phones clients can use during designated hours only.

Treatment and Staff

The adolescent track addresses a number of different issues that teens may face regarding their mental health. This includes anxiety and panic disorders, depression, PTSD, addiction issues and self harm or suicidal thoughts.

In addition to a regular schedule of therapy, recreation and activities, clients work on life and coping skills. This includes daily living, relapse prevention, goal setting, education, communication, setting boundaries and nutrition. Therapeutic approaches are evidence-based and incorporate CBT, Solution Focused Therapy, trauma-informed care, expressive therapy, and socialization therapy.

Clients attend daily group therapy and receive one on one counseling from their assigned therapist. Medication management is a common element to the adolescent track as well. There is a psychological assessment at the beginning of treatment with a staff psychiatrist.

A full time teacher is on hand at the facility who keeps clients current in their studies.

The multidisciplinary staff at Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital includes LCSWs, case managers, psychiatrist nurses, medical doctors, recreational therapists and dietitians.

Extras

Aftercare planning is included in the initial treatment plan. The aftercare can include stepping down to the outpatient track, or receiving referrals for outside agencies within the community.

Family involvement is an essential element to the adolescent track at this facility. Counseling and education is provided.

In Summary

The adolescent inpatient program at Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital aims to take the stigma and shame out of the equation when it comes to mental health. The programs are personalized and thorough. Every client receives a lot of one on one care while learning a great deal about themselves and their mental illness, which is intended to empower them.
