The Basics

Founded in 2016, the Louisville, Kentucky based Renew Recovery is a treatment facility that provides focused care through an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Programming at Renew Recovery is primarily comprised of individual and group therapy, relapse prevention strategies, and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) using Suboxone (for clients struggling specifically with opioid withdrawal).

Treatment and Staff

At the beginning of treatment, clients have an assessment with the team of physicians and clinical staff at Renew Recovery to establish their personal treatment goals and medical needs. Renew uses medication to suppress the cravings that clients have when trying to get off of opioids in order to help keep them in treatment and lessen the chance of relapse. An individualized treatment plan is implemented and clients begin their program. The IOP is extremely flexible in terms of how many treatment hours are required per week. It all depends on the client’s needs.

Renew Recovery’s IOP consists of individual therapy and group sessions that emphasize the importance of coping skills, identifying triggers and achieving goals. Clients focus on self awareness and accountability along with the support of others within the group setting. Participants are also encouraged to work or go to school during their time in IOP.

The IOP is broken down into phases. The first is the induction phase, which requires that all incoming clients start treatment in the beginning stages of withdrawal in order to have success with Suboxone. This is typically for the first two or three days of the program. The next step is the maintenance phase where clients have their medication monitored and adjusted so stabilization can occur. This is also when counseling sessions begin and clients begin to learn how to manage their cravings. The final phase is when clients begin to taper off of their medications and learn how to live in recovery long term.

Therapeutic approaches include CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and other evidence-based approaches. Treatment at Renew Recovery is not 12-step based but the staff doesn’t discourage clients from seeking additional forms of peer support in their respective communities.

The staff at Renew Recovery includes medical doctors, nurses and clinical staff with a specialization in addiction.

Extras

The treatment team at Renew Recovery firmly believes family participation is an integral part of the success of its clients in establishing sobriety and recovery. As such, there are family and couples counseling services offered.

In Summary

Renew Recovery takes individuals who have had trouble getting off of opioids in the past and gives them medication in a safe, medically monitored setting in order to hopefully halt the cycle. The environment is compassionate and supportive but also fosters the importance of accountability and self care. Renew Recovery helps men and women establish healthy habits and hopefully set a foundation for long-term sobriety. It’s certainly a welcomed resource in a state that’s been no stranger to the nation’s opioid epidemic.
