Renew Medical Clinics Review
Renew Medical Clinics is a Canadian treatment organization located in Mississauga, which is a suburb of Toronto, Ontario. The facility addresses opioid use disorders. Clients are often struggling with heroin, fentanyl, oxycontin or heroin. Renew facilitates long-term Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) that incorporates medication with therapy and psychoeducation. Care is available at five locations throughout southern Ontario. The 12-step recovery model is not an integral component of the curriculum. Methadone treatment is completely voluntary; clients can stop whenever they want.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment at Renew, clients go through an extensive medical evaluation that includes a physical and psychological exam as well as a history of substance use. From there, a team physician determines the most effective personalized course of action that is customized to address the unique needs and goals of the person. This includes what kind of medication and how often it will be administered. For clients struggling with opioid use disorders, the facility employs either methadone or Suboxone. There is also medication to help curb uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms like nausea, vomiting and seizures. While the length of methadone treatment varies from person to person, many clients stay in the program for a year or longer.
Contrary to most facilities that provide opioid detox, Renew offers an alternative approach more likely to successfully achieve a sustainable, long-lasting recovery. Methadone maintenance treatment is a strategy that tapers clients off opioids over a prolonged period of time. In addition, Renew incorporates a curriculum of complementary therapeutic methods including counseling, psychoeducation and case management. Clients engage in individual counseling sessions and participate in psychoeducation classes that focus on coping strategies, relapse prevention and addiction. Case managers help individuals stabilize their life through employment and accommodation assistance. Clients are supervised and required to follow a strict medication regimen. Failure to keep up with the schedule results in a re-assessment by a physician. When clients have demonstrated increased stability, typically after at least eight weeks in the program, Renew provides take-home doses called “carries.”
Renew employs physicians, addiction specialists, case managers and a nursing team. Individuals struggling with mental health concerns are treated with medication management.
Renew accepts clients coming from other clinics, and can successfully transition them onto a new treatment plan.
