Remuda Ranch Review
With locations in Wickenburg and Chandler, Arizona, Remuda Ranch is an all-female residential treatment facility founded in 1990 as a subsidiary program of recovery industry mainstay, the Meadows. While the organization’s focus is primarily on eating disorders, support for co-occurring disorders including addiction is also available. The facility provides specific units for adults and adolescents along with a full continuum of care.
Accommodations and Food
As the name suggests, the Remuda Ranch facility is set up in a ranch-style setting with a total of 12 beds available for women. Although rooms are each shared between three clients, all are spacious and come with full beds, large comforters, dressers, shared closet space and cozy decor. The facility also has therapy rooms, shared common areas, a swimming pool and an outdoor horse enclosure for equine therapy. There is a fully-equipped kitchen to provide residents three meals a day, all designed with the help of on-staff counselors and nutritionists.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, clients can attend the organization’s acute care unit for detox and stabilization before continuing on to therapy. Once stabilized, residents work with staff members on developing individualized treatment plans, each of which includes individual and group therapy rooted in evidence-based practices including CBT, DBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and EMDR. One of the program’s many strengths is the diversity of its curriculum; in addition to these methods, clients also attend a range of experiential therapy groups including equine therapy, art therapy, music therapy and Somatic Experiencing. As Remuda Ranch is also a Christian-based rehab, residents also attend a non-denominational on-site chapel for weekly services. In addition to its trauma-informed care approach, clients also go regularly to 12-step meetings as part of the program.
The staff at Remuda Ranch consists of MDs, RNs, psychiatrists, psychologists, dietitians, LMFTs, LPCs, case managers and additional Master’s and PhD-level clinicians.
Extras
Remuda also has an on-site Challenge ROPES Course along with its other experiential therapy options. Throughout the program, clients work extensively with nutritionists to learn healthy eating habits and to slowly put on weight in a healthy and controlled way. Family therapy is also available. Finally, Remuda Ranch also has access to a number of all-star staff members as part of its partnership with the Meadows—including trauma-informed care pioneers Pia Mellody and John Bradshaw.
