Street Drugs Rehab Centers

Street drugs come in many forms.  Most of them tend to be highly-addictive, which is the primary reason as to why more than 20 million people in the United States suffer from the symptoms of addiction.  Some of the more common street drugs include:

  • Cocaine
  • Methamphetamine
  • Heroin
  • MDMA
  • PCP
  • Prescription drugs
  • Marijuana

The main factor that qualifies a substance as a street drug is when it is bought illegally for the purpose of altering the mind.

If you are suffering from an addiction to street drugs, it’s imperative that you seek treatment as soon as possible.  As you well know, addiction is a serious disease that can lead to death.  The more you succumb to the disease, the harder it is to quit, but treatment and support make it possible to live a life free of drugs.  And while you might try to overcome your addiction on your own, you’ll likely find that it’s impossible to beat this disease without going to one or more street drugs rehabs.  Inpatient rehab services are usually recommended to those who have been abusing drugs for longer than three to six months, while outpatient services are ideal for those who have just began to suffer from addiction.

Finding street drugs treatment centers

Once you have decided you would like to receive treatment for your addiction to street drugs, you will need to find a rehab center that specializes in treating the substances you are addicted to.  When a rehab says that it treats street drugs, this usually means that it provides services for treating various types of drugs sold illegally.  However, you may find the some treatment facilities treat only one type of street drug addiction, while others treat two or three forms.

Depending on the rehab center you enter into, you may have to complete a detox program beforehand.  Detoxing is an important step involved in your treatment because it helps eliminate harmful drugs and their toxins from your body; this helps promote mental clarity so you can get the most out of your treatment.  Detox programs last anywhere from two days to three weeks or longer.  The exact amount of time that you will have to stay depends on the substances you are detoxing off of, the program itself, and your body’s reaction to the detox.  Some people find that they are able to detox off of multiple street drugs without any problem whatsoever.  Others, however, may endure extreme physical and mental withdrawals when detoxing off of only one street drug.  It all depends on the severity of your addiction and how your body reacts.

A detox specialist will monitor you as you complete the detox program, followed then by releasing you once the detox phase has successfully ended.  You will then be advised to check directly into a treatment center.  To simplify the transition into treatment, it is ideal to enter into a detox program that also provides treatment services.  Most importantly, however, it is imperative that once you enter into detox — possibly before — to secure a bed at a rehab facility that specializes in street drugs addiction; this way once detox is over you won’t have to go home and wait for a bed to come open at a treatment center.  If you do have to wait at home, it is highly advised that you do so under the care of someone who won’t allow you to leave the house on your own.  If you were to leave, this would likely result in relapsing, which means you then have to start the entire detox phase all over.

What happens at street drugs treatment centers?

On your first day at rehab, you will be asked to go through an assortment of assessments.  It is pertinent that you be completely honest when asked any questions as this will help your treatment to be as effective as possible.  It’s also important to note that anything you say during treatment is completely confidential between you, rehab staff members and other patients.

It’s also on your first day that you will be given a tour of the treatment facility and be introduced to other patients.  Depending on the rehab you choose, you may or may not be with patients of the opposite sex.  Ideally, it’s best to stick with same gender rehab programs as this allows your mind to not become distracted with developing intimate relationships with patients of the opposite sex; however, being that more and more people are gay or lesbian, this makes it difficult to address this issue.  Just keep in mind that going to rehab is not meant as a gateway to develop intimate relationships.  Instead, it is meant to treat your addiction and help you learn how to live without using street drugs.

You will take part in various activities during your stay at rehab, including individual counseling, group therapy sessions, recreational activities, and much more.  If you can find a facility that offers a fitness center, you may find that exercising gives you optimal mental clarity during treatment.  The rehab center will provide you with food and a place to sleep; however, sleeping arrangements differ from one rehab to the next.  Some rehabs have their patients stay at the treatment facility, while others provide apartments for the patients to sleep in.  No matter the type of center you enter into, the important thing is to make sure you will be monitored 24/7 as this helps ensure you won’t be tempted to sneak off and relapse.
