Located not far from the DC suburb of Arlington, Virginia, in the city of Falls Church, Reflections Eating Disorder Treatment Center offers an intensive inpatient program for men and women of all ages who are struggling with anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder and more. Reflections’ programming uses a group therapy approach that’s primarily rooted in evidence-based treatment models and psychiatric care. Treatment is totally individualized and includes dual diagnosis support along with extensive family and educational services.
Accommodations and Food
Reflections’ residential treatment is offered through Dominion Hospital and though clients stay in a clinical setting, the accommodations are comfortable and spacious. Depending on the amount of individuals in the program at any given time, there are some private and semi private rooms available. All are furnished with full beds and dressers and have en suite bathrooms. The residential quarters have a contemporary feel and provide plush linens. There is a common lounge area where clients can watch movies, and an on-site computer room that clients have access to at certain times during the day. There are also laundry facilities that clients can use whenever they want.
Most of the meals are professionally prepared and served on site in the dining room, however there are also times when clients, under the guidance of staff, learn to make their own meals. The meals are well balanced and planned by a dietitian and nutritionist. Vegetarian options are offered for each meal and any food allergies can be taken into account. In addition to the regular full meals, there are also three snacks incorporated into each day.
Treatment and Staff
A typical day in treatment usually starts off with clients having their vitals taken, followed by a community meal. Then clients attend a number of group sessions, including process groups, expressive therapy groups or meal planning. There is also ample time scheduled into the day for personal focus on studying for those who are still in school. Afternoon sessions can include journaling, or, if it’s approved by a doctor, some light stretching or yoga. The evening usually consists of an informational or educational session, or social work group followed by recreation or computer and phone time. There are also several individual sessions scheduled throughout the week.
Since the program is individualized there isn’t a set amount of time that clients can expect to be in treatment. Treatment methods include CBT, and DBT, along with expressive modalities like art and music therapy, psychodrama, creative writing and dance. Nutritional support is an essential element of treatment and after each meal there is a group session to discuss any emotions clients experienced while they were eating.
For dual diagnosis clients, there are medication management services and regaul session with a staff psychiatrist. Other staff members include internal medicine physicians, psychologists, social workers, case managers, a specialized nursing staff and dietitians.
Extras
There are family counseling sessions set up several times a week in a private and group setting. Family is especially involved with the younger clients’ treatment programs.
