Reflections Eating Disorder Treatment Center of Falls Church, Virginia (just outside Arlington), is a program through Dominion Hospital. It offers outpatient treatment for all ages. It’s a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) that serves as a step-down from the facility’s inpatient program. Clients experience a variety of evidence-based approaches and have access to psychiatric and medical care throughout their time in treatment.
Treatment and Staff
The PHP through Reflections is considered a transitional program from the residential treatment and includes many of the same programming elements. The PHP is very intensive with 12 hour treatment days, seven days a week. The main difference is that at the end of the day clients return to their own homes as opposed to staying at the facility overnight. This rigorous schedule ensures ample support during meal times and gives clients a measured amount of structure during the day.
The daily schedule may have three or four group sessions, including a meeting after each meal so clients can reflect on their experiences. Group sessions cover psychoeducation, meal and nutritional planning, process groups and expressive therapy. Expressive therapy at Reflections consists of journaling, dance, creative writing, music and art therapy and psychodrama. Additionally, for clients who are school age, there are teachers on site who help keep clients up on their studies while in treatment.
There are regular sessions with a staff psychiatrists and medication management services provided. For those who have the approval of a physician, there are some some recreational and exercise activities, like yoga, available.
The staff of Reflections is made up of medical doctors, psychiatrists, psychologist, dietitians, LCSW, case managers and nutritionists.
Since there isn’t a standard outpatient treatment program available through Reflections, the staff arranges outpatient treatment as part of aftercare planning. Reflections has an extensive outpatient referral network and is able to coordinate with clients and families to provide the best aftercare services.
There are also family therapy sessions at least twice every week, and eating disorder support groups for loved ones.
The PHP at Reflections Eating Disorder Treatment Center is incredibly thorough and structured to provide clients with all the support they need as they transition out of inpatient and back into their own homes and lives. There are so many different treatment approaches employed at this facility, all of which are individualized and comprehensive. Clients and their families are fully supported during their transitions and are provided with the highest level of outpatient care.
