Red Rock Recovery Center Review
Located just outside Denver in Lakewood, Colorado, Red Rock Recovery Center offers long term, co-ed substance abuse treatment. Its unique structure consists of a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and basic outpatient care in combination with gender-specific sober living for adults. Red Rock Recovery Center’s 12-step based substance abuse treatment approach also emphasizes outdoor activities with an adventure therapy component and welcomes clients with co-occurring disorders.
Accommodations and Food
Red Rock Recovery Center separates its male and female clients into four gender-segregated houses—one for women and three for men. Each is a single-family home where residents live with a maximum of four other people, sharing his or her room with one roommate. Each home has its own back yard, as well as plenty of space inside the home for individual reflection or solo activities. Monday through Friday, transportation to the treatment facility is provided by Red Rock staff.
Clients are responsible for their own food shopping and cooking house meals together. For the first 10 weeks, the cost of food is included in the rent. After that point, residents are expected to secure a job and pay for their own groceries.
Treatment and Staff
The treatment process starts with a comprehensive assessment of each potential client’s medical, mental health, substance use and family history. Clients are then seen by the medical director, who assesses existing prescriptions and determines whether additional medications are necessary. Psychiatric evaluations are also done upon admission and medication management is provided for those requiring dual diagnosis support.
The PHP provides treatment six hours a day, five days a week, for two weeks. After which, clients enter the IOP phase, which is 15 hours a week for four to six weeks. The final phase of clinical care is standard outpatient that can continue for another four months as needed. All programs include both group and individual therapy that employs CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Clients also take part in life-skill classes, receive assistance in writing resumes and get guidance in proper nutrition and physical activity.
Staff consists of a psychiatrist, an RN, Master’s-level LCSWs, LADCs, a yoga teacher and a MFT.
Extras
Clients have access to on-site yoga classes as well as use of a gym and transportation to off-site equine therapy and kickboxing classes.
Red Rock partners with Phoenix Multisport, a local Denver organization that fosters a supportive, physically active community for people in recovery. Through excursions such as climbing, hiking, running, strength training, skiing, snowboarding and mountain biking, Red Rock clients are gifted with the opportunity to be active and build strong sober friendships.
An eight-bed men’s alumni house is available for those who have successfully completed six months of care at Red Rock. Residents of this house still have access to outpatient groups at Red Rock and benefit from the support of a sober community.
In Summary
The Red Rock Recovery Center PHP and sober living combo are on par with the care found in a full inpatient programs, while the dual diagnosis support and wellness options are also an asset. This is a great option for those who like adventure and are looking for an alternative to a traditional residential treatment, yet still provides intensive care and plenty of extras.
