Red Door Recovery of Wellington, New Zealand is a comprehensive addiction treatment facility that provides adults with inpatient and outpatient treatment programs with an emphasis on methamphetamine addiction. The outpatient tracks include a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and a completely private track that can be for an individual or a couple. Treatment includes counseling, coaching services, therapeutic activities and more—utilizing both evidence-based and holistic treatment approaches. One very unique aspect of treatment at Red Door is that every program is followed by a 24-month aftercare program.
Treatment and Staff
The outpatient tracks are open to clients who have already graduated from the residential program, or for clients who are high functioning and have remained sober. The three week day program, or PHP, runs Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm and includes lunch. The private program runs anywhere from three weeks to three months depending on the client’s particular needs. For either of these tracks, clients must have been sober for a while and are living in either a sober living house or are safely with others who won’t promote drugs and alcohol usage.
Treatment uses CBT and mindfulness techniques during counseling along with education and goal setting. The day program consists of group counseling and some individual sessions, while the private program usually takes place at the client’s home. The private program is usually for those clients who need to fly off the radar and require a completely confidential experience.
In addition to counseling, there are coaching sessions, life skills training, relapse prevention, wellness seminars, aftercare planning, recreational activities, personal assignments and physical activities. There is a gym on site where the outpatient clients are able to work out.
Red Door Recovery doesn’t offer detox services on the premises but the team is able to connect clients in need of a detox to an outside and trusted agency, They are also willing to coordinate any medical or legal needs.
The meth specific program was born out of a need for focused treatment due to the increase of New Zealanders who were reported using. The Pipe Down Meth Recovery program was introduced and is led by recovery specialists who only deal with those who are meth users and employ holistic approaches in treatment that have helped to reduce relapse.
Treatment at Red Door in not necessarily based in the 12 steps, though the staff doesn’t discourage clients from seeking out that kind of structured support while in their program, and are able to provide meeting locations in their area.
Extras
The two year aftercare program includes an online group of professional and peer support that is offered on a daily basis. There is also a crisis and buddy line that is available 24 hours a day.
