The Basics

The Recovery Village at Palmer Lake (RVPL) opened its doors May of 2015 in Denver, Colorado. It is one of many facilities in the Recovery Village network, which opened in 2013. RVPL offers detox, residential substance abuse treatment, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), basic outpatient treatment, aftercare and dual diagnosis support. Services are offered on an individualized, interdisciplinary basis where each client gets his or her own treatment plan customized in its approach to meet their needs.

Accommodations and Food

Located amidst plentiful flora and hiking trails, yet strategically close to Denver airport, the RVPL facility offers clients resort-like, hotel style rooms. Clients may share with one other person if they wish but are not obliged to do so. All rooms are equipped with flat screen TVs while the grounds include a spa, gym and pool. A chef prepares all clients’ food alongside a dietician and any kind of dietary restriction or preference can be accommodated.

Treatment and Staff

The RVPL detox program lasts five to 10 days. Clients are under the care of a registered nurse, a medical doctor and a psychiatrist until they are medically cleared. Residential treatment is offered in packages of 30, 60 or 90 days and welcomes a maximum of 40 people at a time. These clients take part in group sessions at a frequency based on their specific needs, as assessed by RVPL staff. Residents also have individual sessions three times a week. RVPL staff compare a typical day in rehab to a work day—groups take up most of the day with a break for lunch and an hour-long AA/NA meeting in the evening after dinner. Note that no cell phones or laptops are allowed for clients in detox or residential treatment.

Those who complete residential treatment may stay on at RVPL under its sober living aftercare program but must also enroll in IOP. Once a client has completed the IOP, he or she can remain in sober living. During sober living there is a house manager on site 24/7 and drug tests are administered regularly. Sober living residents must attend three 12-step meetings a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between the hours of 6 and 9 pm as well as one hour of individual therapy. Clients may also have a cell phone and go back to work as long as they maintain accountability to their case manager.

The RVPL staff consists of a medical doctor who specializes in addiction medicine, nurses, CSACs and LCSWs.

Extras

RVPL clients may enjoy massage therapy, yoga, music and art therapy, the use of a large pool and full gym facilities. RVPL clients also get to go on supervised outings like movies and visiting the local Target.

In Summary

Treatment at The Recovery Village at Palmer Lake is regimented yet relaxed. It is luxurious but charges towards the lower end for a luxury rehab. All things considered, RVPL may be a good bet for those in need of some truly comfortable residential treatment with a primarily 12-step approach.
