The Basics
For over 10 years, Recovery Road Medical Center has been providing outpatient treatment in the scenic coastal town of Santa Barbara, California. Its accomplished multidisciplinary treatment team takes a holistic approach to treatment and is equipped to provide dual diagnosis support. Recovery Road was founded by Dr. Joseph Frawley (a board-certified internist) and Dr. Sherif El-Asyouty (a board-certified psychiatrist)—both of whom specialize in the treatment of addiction.
Treatment and Staff
The duration of the program is two months. In their first six weeks of treatment, clients attend treatment at the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) level of care. Clients attend three-hour group therapy four days a week for their first month. The first 90 minutes of each session is spent on skill building and/or education and the second 90 minutes is a processing group. In the second month of treatment, clients meet for group therapy three days a week for two weeks and then two days a week for the final two weeks.
Throughout treatment, clients have individual therapy once a week and meet weekly with a physician to discuss medical concerns, which may include medication management.
Groups use CBT and DBT as well as other evidence-based modalities. Clients also explore methods for handling triggers, developing boundaries and discussing general recovery issues. There are dedicated groups for pain management, dual diagnosis support and young adults (between the ages of 18 and 24). Opioid addicts can also receive Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) with Suboxone.
In addition to Drs. Frawley and El-Asyouty, the treatment team includes several MFTs—including one who is an accomplished yoga instructor and leads a recovery yoga class bi-weekly.
Recovery Road encourages clients to attend AA/NA meetings while in treatment and hopes that clients obtain sponsors and complete the first five of the 12 steps while enrolled in the program.
Extras
Recovery Road hosts a family education group the first and third weeks of each month. For aftercare, clients can attend a weekly relapse prevention group on Tuesday evenings, free of charge.
