The Basics
Recovery Resources was founded in 1999 by husband and wife team Rick and Jerri Thompson, both CADCs and certified Substance Abuse Professionals (SAP). Located in the agricultural San Joaquin Valley of California, Recovery Resources provides community-oriented programs for addiction in the town of Visalia. It offers outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) for adults and adolescents.
Treatment and Staff
Before treatment begins, individuals go through an initial assessment so that staff members can develop an individualized treatment plan. Most start in the IOP, an appropriate level of care for clients leaving a residential program or who don’t need the structure of 24-hour care. Those in need of more intensive treatment are referred to local inpatient or transitional care facilities.
The IOP consists of individual and group therapy for approximately nine hours a week. Adolescent groups are also available. After completion, clients typically step down to less frequent individual and group sessions until recovery goals have been satisfied.
Treatment employs evidence-based practices, such as CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). All clients are required to attend regular off-site 12-step meetings as part of their program. Family therapy may also be integrated into any of treatment plans. For clients who need dual diagnosis support, referrals to off-site psychological support and medication management are available as necessary.
In addition to the Thompsons, the Recovery Resources team consists of additional CADCs and administrative support staff.
Extras
Additional services include drug testing for athletes in local high schools. Recovery Resources also offers SAP assessment and referral services. SAP stands for Substance Abuse Professional, a certification that is required to provide substance abuse care to individuals with DOT (Department of Transportation) jobs. This includes those who work for the Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration, Federal Railroad Administration, Federal Transit Administration, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration and the US Coast Guard.
