The Basics
Recovery Outreach Services, LLC, provides outpatient substance abuse treatment to the residents of Southwestern Missouri. Located in Springfield, the facility is situated not far from the Missouri State University Campus. Recovery Outreach Services is currently headed by Nina Smart-Dixon, a Certified Reciprocal Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CRADC), who assumed its leadership in 2008.
Treatment and Staff
After an assessment, clients are placed on the standard outpatient track or the ASAP (Advanced Substance Abuse Program) track, which offers treatment at the Intensive Outpatient Pprogram (IOP) level of care.
Standard outpatient has two phases: in phase one, clients attend group therapy twice a week for eight weeks. They also have individual therapy every other week. In the second phase of treatment, referred to as aftercare, clients attend weekly group therapy for 18 weeks, for a total of six months of treatment.
In phase one of the ASAP track, clients attend group therapy three times a week for eight weeks and also have individual therapy every other week. In their second phase of treatment, clients attend the weekly aftercare group for 18 weeks. Treatment concludes with nine months of individual therapy, meeting once per month. This phase lasts a total of 15 months of treatment. While not a requirement, ROS may recommend that some clients attend weekly 12-step or other peer support meetings while in treatment.
Groups use CBT and Moral Recognition Therapy (MRT). Trauma groups and gender-specific groups are available, and ROS has a dedicated group for young African-American men.
The treatment team at ROS includes CRDACs and RASACs (Missouri addiction counseling credentials) and a peer support specialist who helps clients locate peer support meetings and employment and educational services. Counselors are able to address co-occurring disorders in therapy, but they refer clients in need of on-going dual diagnosis support to nearby mental health clinics.
Extras
In addition to the extensive aftercare built into its treatment plans, ROS helps clients with life skills through its anger management, budgeting and theft deterrence classes. Beginning in early 2017, it plans to expand its offering for families by providing classes on building healthy relationships and parenting skills.
