Recovery Guild Review

Recovery Guild is located near Studio City, an upscale San Fernando Valley suburb of Los Angeles. It opened its doors in the fall of 2016 to provide detox and residential treatment in a comfortable, intimate environment. With only six beds in the residence, Recovery Guild is able to create highly customized treatment and aftercare plans. It recently purchased an adjoining property and plans to open an additional residence later this year.

Accommodations and Food

Clients have private or shared bedrooms in the well-appointed home, depending on the gender balance of clients currently in treatment. All bedrooms have their own TVs, and the residence features a common area with an additional TV, board games and a pool table.

Clients cannot have access to their phones or computers the first seven days of treatment. After, they can have limited access, as long as it doesn’t interfere with treatment. Throughout their stay, clients can use the house phone to call home.

Recovery Guild employs a chef who’s counted numerous celebrities among his clientele. The menus offer seasonal, organic ingredients including those sourced from Recovery Guild’s own organic garden.

Treatment and Staff

Clients usually complete detox in five to seven days and transition to residential treatment for an additional three weeks. Residents begin their days with 8 am meditation and then participate in group therapy, addiction education and life skills classes until 5 pm. They also have individual therapy two or three times each week and weekly meetings with a case manager. In the evenings, clients are transported to peer support meetings including AA/NA, SMART Recovery and Refuge Recovery.

Clients in need of dual diagnosis support also meet with a psychiatrist for medication management. Recovery Guild also provides Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) with Suboxone, Vivitrol and Naltrexone.

Therapy uses CBT and holistic treatment such as breath work. One of its technicians is an accomplished gardener and teaches clients how to tend the house garden. Clients also create meal plans and shopping budgets and go on grocery runs with the staff as part of their life skills training.

Dr. Bruce Stark is the Medical Director of Recovery Guild and is certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine. The treatment team also includes LMFTs, CADCs, recovery technicians and case managers.

Extras

Recovery Guild transports clients to the gym each weekday for exercise. On weekends, the staff takes clients on beach outings and to movies and museums. Families that are unable to come to the facility can participate in family therapy by phone. For aftercare, each client works with their case manager to identify outpatient programs and peer support meetings to participate in once they leave treatment.

In Summary

Recovery Guild’s intimate and comfortable atmosphere enables clients to form strong bonds with their clinicians and receive treatment and aftercare planning customized to their unique challenges and goals. Additionally, the suburban Los Angeles location allows individuals to experience a variety of recreational activities on the weekends and take advantage of the city’s extensive peer support meetings.
