The Basics
Recovery First, Inc was founded in 2001 in Hollywood, Florida, a mid-sized city located on the Southern Atlantic coast. In addition to a residential treatment program, the organization offers outpatient services for adult men and women struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
The treatment process begins with an in-person assessment where a counselor and the client discuss substance abuse history and determine the needed level of care. If the person is deemed a good fit an individualized treatment plan is developed.
In its outpatient division, Recovery First offers a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and standard outpatient track. The PHP meets five days a week for group meetings, the IOP meets three days a week and the standrad program meets one to two days a week. Each program lasts for six weeks and treatment consists of group and individual therapy. Groups typically have between 10 and 15 clients and last for an hour. Counselors use a variety of treatment techniques including CBT, education, sharing and relapse prevention. The frequency and intensity of individual sessions varies depending on the client.
The organization is not 12-step based but counselors highly recommend that clients attend outside AA and NA meetings and find a sponsor while in treatment. As a bonus, Recovery First occasionally hosts 12-step meetings on-site.
As previously mentioned, clients with a dual diagnosis are welcome and receive additional support through individual sessions with Master’s-level mental health health counselors.
The staff consists of of LCSWs and other Master’s-level therapists.
Extras
Additional services include an extensive aftercare program that includes group and individual sessions, referrals to sober living houses and regular local alumni meetings where relapse prevention techniques are discussed. This program also focuses on goal-setting and helping clients transition into a healthy and successful life after treatment.
