Recovery Centers of America Boston Center for Addiction Treatment OutpatientThe Basics

Boston Center for Addiction Treatment is a new addition to the Recovery Centers of America portfolio. RCA operates a number of treatment programs that provide comfortable to high-end amenities alongside a treatment philosophy of respectful and open communication between clients and clinicians.

Boston Center opened a residential program earlier this year in Danvers, Massachusetts, 20 miles north of the city. It recently opened an outpatient division with an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and standard outpatient levels of care. It will be offering a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) in the near future. Boston Center aims to be a community resource for addiction treatment and education and opens many of its peer support meetings and educational workshops to members of the surrounding communities.

Treatment and Staff

Outpatient treatment is offered in the same location as residential treatment—a former hospital that was recently given an ultra-modern renovation. The facility features high ceilings, modern art, leather chairs and fireplaces, lending it a luxury hotel-like atmosphere.

After an assessment, IOP clients receive a treatment plan that includes group therapy three to five times a week from 9:30 am to 1 pm. Clients also have individual therapy at least once a week and family therapy as needed. Most IOP clients complete their treatment plan in eight to 10 weeks; they may step down to standard outpatient care which includes a 45- to 90-minute therapy groups one to three times a week. When the PHP is established, clients attend group therapy Monday through Friday from 9 am until mid-afternoon and have individual and family therapy each week, as well.

Therapy utilizes Motivational Interviewing (MI) and CBT to explore topics such as grief, family dynamics and relapse prevention. Most groups have fewer than 10 participants. While co-occurring disorders are addressed in therapy, clients in need of dual diagnosis support might be referred to a nearby mental health center for additional therapy and medication management.

Outpatient clients are encouraged to attend AA/NA meetings on-site with the residential clients. These meetings are open to other members of the community, which Boston Center hopes will facilitate clients’ building a sober social network. They’re also encouraged to explore other peer support meetings such as SMART Recovery outside of treatment hours.

The treatment team includes ICADCs and LMHCs.

Extras

Each client works with their therapist to create an aftercare plan that may include peer support meetings and on-going individual therapy. Recovery Centers of America also facilitates an active alumni network that hosts events and connects graduates in different cities.

In Summary

Recovery Centers of America’s Boston Center for Addiction Treatment outpatient program provides evidence-based treatment in a comfortable, luxurious environment. With flexible, responsive levels of care and an active alumni network, clients have the opportunity to integrate treatment into daily life while receiving on-going support and inspiration.
