Recovery Centers of America Boston Center for Addiction TreatmentRecovery Centers of America: Boston Center for Addiction Treatment Review

Boston Center for Addiction Treatment is a new addition to the Recovery Centers of America (RCA) portfolio. RCA operates a number of treatment programs that provide comfortable to high-end amenities alongside a treatment philosophy of respectful and open communication between clients and clinicians.

Boston Center opened in early 2017 and is located in Danvers, Massachusetts, 20 miles north of the city. Boston Center aims to be a community resource for addiction treatment and education and opens many of its peer support meetings and educational workshops to members of the surrounding communities. Boston Center’s primary program is its 30-day residential track, which includes detox. It recently opened an outpatient division that offers an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and standard outpatient levels of care.

Accommodations and Food

Boston Center has 71 beds. The residence is a former hospital that was recently given an ultra-modern renovation. The facility features high ceilings and modern art, lending it a luxury hotel-like atmosphere. Residents have roommates, though single rooms may be available for an additional fee. Rooms have TVs and pillow-top mattresses with high threat-count sheets.

The facility has multiple common areas for reading, playing video games and congregating with other residents. Clients can enjoy its basketball court and fitness center. While clients cannot have phones and computers in their possession, they are permitted an hour of supervised phone time each week.

Boston Center employs a chef who creates farm-to-table meals that accommodate residents’ dietary restrictions and preferences. Vegetarian options are always available, and snacks and coffee are provided throughout the day.

Treatment and Staff

Detox usually lasts three to seven days, after which clients begin residential treatment. Days begin with a community meeting and then group therapy. Each client has a “primary group” that doesn’t exceed eight participants. Primary groups meet daily to process recovery issues. Residents then have several additional groups and lectures each day. Group topics include family systems, mindfulness, leadership skills and the disease of addiction. Clients also have individual therapy at least once a week.

Therapy uses Motivational Interviewing (MI) and CBT to help clients develop coping skills. Clients in need of treatment for trauma receive sessions with an EMDR therapist. While co-occurring disorders are addressed in therapy, clients in need of dual diagnosis support might be referred to a nearby mental health center for additional therapy and medication management.

Each evening, clients are encouraged to attend optional AA/NA meetings on-site. These meetings are open to other members of the community, which Boston Center hopes facilitates residents’ building a sober social network that will serve them after their residential treatment ends.

The treatment team at Boston Center includes physicians, nurses, CADCs, LADCs, LMHCs and a consulting psychiatrist.

Extras

Clients enjoy weekly sessions of art and yoga therapy.

Family members are encouraged to visit, and clients can invite family to individual therapy for family counseling.

The treatment team creates a discharge plan with each client that may include stepping-down to its recently-opened outpatient program. Recovery Centers of America also facilitates an active alumni network that hosts events and connects graduates in different cities.

In Summary

Recovery Centers of America’s Boston Center for Addiction Treatment provides evidence-based residential treatment in an aesthetically pleasing and spacious environment. By welcoming family members and hosting members of the community at peer support meetings and workshops, Boston Center is helping residents of Danvers learn about recovery while also ensuring that their clients create support networks that will nurture their sobriety beyond their time in treatment.
