Located in Calgary, Alberta, Recovery Acres is a non-profit treatment facility for Canadian men and women who are struggling with addiction. The organization offers residential treatment (for men only), a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), outpatient services and aftercare. Accommodations and Food
Male residents in the inpatient program stay at the 1835 House, an upscale family-style home with shared bedrooms, common rooms, a special floor plan and a library. Clients prepare meals, cook and eat together, and can accommodate persons with dietary restrictions and preferences.
Treatment and Staff
Before entering residential care, clients undergo an extensive psychological evaluation. The assessment helps the team design the most effective personalized care plan. While the length of treatment varies depending on the specific needs of the client and some individuals stay as long as six months, Recovery Acres residents are required to stay a minimum of 42 days.
Recovery Acres utilizes a bio-psycho-social philosophy that focuses on healing the “whole person” rather than just treating symptoms. While 12-step serves as the cornerstone of the programming, the treatment team also incorporates life skills, aftercare, case management, referrals, psychoeducation and evidence-based therapies. Clients can expect regular attendance at AA meetings, as well as participation in relapse prevention, anger and stress management classes. Individual and group therapy with therapists trained in CBT is also integrated.
The multi-disciplinary team at Recovery Acres is comprised of PhDs, addiction specialists with Master’s degrees, counselors and recovery coaches. Without a physician or psychiatrist on staff, medication management is not available for clients with co-occurring disorders. Residents are required to already be following a prescribed treatment before entering Recovery Acres’ care.

Recovery Acres believes aftercare is a key aspect to the success of a long-term recovery. As such, the facility offers men and women’s aftercare with weekly meetings on Monday and Tuesday.
