rebeccas-residenceRebecca’s Residence Review

Haven Chemical Systems is a substance abuse treatment company that has been offering services across Minnesota since 2000. One of their two residential facilities, Rebecca’s Residence, not only provides gender-specific treatment for women but also has an all-female staff. Treatment follows an individualized, evidence-based and 12-step model.

Residential treatment for women is also offered at Margaret’s House, 45 minutes away in Mendota Heights. The program is very similar to Rebecca’s Residence, except Margaret’s House is a bit smaller and older and is not located on as much land.

Accommodations and Food

Rebecca’s Residence clients live in a spacious, cabin-style home in rural Scandia, Minnesota, about 25 miles Northeast of Saint Paul. The house sits on a large plot of land near a pond, providing a picturesque setting for recovery. Women share bedrooms, which feature large windows with plenty of natural light, twin beds, nightstands and salmon-colored wallpaper. The house can accommodate 10 and has a cozy living room with couches around the fireplace as well as a roomy deck facing the pond.

Residents eat three meals a day while living at Rebecca’s Residence. The meals, which are prepared by their private cook, may be sandwiches or something light for lunch and hot, warm, comfort food dishes like grilled chicken or pasta for dinner. Almost all meals offer vegetables as well.

Treatment and Staff

Because the Rebecca’s Residence program is gender-specific, many of the meetings focus on troubles that face women like trauma, parenting issues and marriage difficulties. Treatment includes individual therapy, group therapy, 12-step meetings, relapse prevention, communication skills education, addiction education, parenting education and family education. The program also encourages daily recreation, which might be taking a walk in the backyard or to the pond or doing an exercise video.

Treatment occurs in three phases. During phase one, residents focus on becoming more aware of their behavior and actions, taking responsibility and looking at the impact of chemical abuse on their lives. During phase two, residents begin working to change thought and behavioral patterns and building on personal strengths. They also focus on mending their personal relationships. Lastly, in phase three, they work on developing an aftercare program and continue implementing more positive thought patterns and behaviors.

A typical day starts with an 8 am wake-up, followed by breakfast and group therapy from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Clients then go to lunch and have more group therapy from 1 to 3:30 pm. After a short break, they have dinner and usually attend an outside 12-step meeting before having another hour or so of free time. Lights out follows shortly after.

Rebecca’s Residence staff consists of LADCs, a medical director, a consulting psychologist, a nurse, a dietitian, trained medication administrators/techs and various administrative staff. The staff-to-resident ratio is about one-to-one.

Extras

Haven Chemical Systems also offers outpatient treatment at a few different locations in Minnesota—Shakopee, Woodbury, Waconia and Cloquet. Treatment includes individual therapy, group therapy and education depending on client needs.

Aftercare at Rebecca’s Residence varies depending on a resident’s progress, but it typically might include continued individual or group meetings at one of their outpatient facilities or referrals to 12-step meetings. Aftercare is not included in the total cost of treatment.

In Summary

With an ideal staff-to-resident ratio, comfortable accommodations and comprehensive treatment, Rebecca’s Residence could be a safe choice for recovery. Prospective clients should note, though, that Haven Chemical Systems residential facilities often have a waiting list of anywhere from three days to two weeks.
