The Basics
Based out of Rosemead, California, Reasons Eating Disorder Centler is an expansive behavioral health organization offering treatment for eating disorders and co-occurring disorders like addiction. In addition to its inpatient and residential treatment programs, the facility also provides Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) for men and women seeking more flexible and less intensive care.
Treatment and Staff
Upon intake, each client goes through an initial assessment process to help the staff develop their individualized treatment plan. Those in need of detox can do so in the inpatient wing of the BHC Alhambra Hospital before continuing on to treatment. The PHP is six days a week, Monday through Saturday, and runs from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm. The IOP is a more flexible track that also meets six days a week but from either 10:30 am to 2:30 pm or from 2:30 to 6:30 pm. Both options include meal service.
While the specifics may vary, both programs include individual therapy up to twice a week, psychiatric consultations one to three times a week and regular group therapy. Individual and multi-family groups are also included as are weekly nutritional consultations. All the above take a trauma-informed approach rooted in evidence-based practices such as CBT and DBT. Groups cover a range of additional topics including psychoeducation, relapse prevention, spirituality, social and communication skills and co-occurring issues. Those struggling with addiction may also attend 12-step meetings in addition to therapy, though this is not always required. Finally, the curriculum includes a number of holistic therapies like yoga, dance, somatic experiencing, voice and acting classes, creative writing and art therapy.
The staff at Reasons Eating Disorder Center consists of MDs, LMFTs, RDs, RNs, psychiatrists, psychologists and additional Master’s and PhD-level counselors.
Extras
In addition to outpatient care, the organization provides inpatient treatment for men and women through the BHC Alhambra Hospital and residential programs for women in Pasadena and Hancock Park. Clients who finish primary care can step down their treatment as a form of aftercare or get referrals to outside programs for additional support.
