Based out of Rosemead, California, Reasons Eating Disorder Center is an expansive behavioral health organization that provides treatment for eating disorders as well as co-occurring disorders including addiction. In addition to its outpatient and residential programs, the organization also provides an inpatient hospitalization track that serves as the most intensive of all its programs.
Accommodations and Food
The inpatient program has a total of 15 beds housed in the BHC Alhambra Hospital in Rosemead for both adults and adolescents. Clients stay in their own wing of the hospital with shared rooms and comfortable accommodations with twin beds, dressers and shared closet space. While the living quarters are in a hospital, each of the rooms is decorated like residential bedrooms rather than like a clinic. Throughout their stay, residents are served three meals a day with plans designed by dietitians. Support for vegetarianism is available though not for veganism.
Treatment and Staff
Upon intake, clients go through an initial assessment to help staff members develop their individualized treatment plans. Those in need of detox can do so on-site before continuing on to therapy. In general, treatment runs from 7:45 am to 8:30 pm with breaks throughout the day. It includes individual therapy three times a week and group therapy daily, both using evidence-based practices such as CBT and DBT. Groups cover a range of topics including psychoeducation, spirituality, social and communication skills, nutrition, relapse prevention and dual diagnosis issues as necessary. Those struggling with addictions may be encouraged to attend 12-step meetings though this is not always required.
Aside from the psychotherapeutic methods above, residents also participate in a range of holistic therapies like yoga, dance, somatic experiencing, creative writing, voice and acting lessons and art therapy. All programs include a trauma-informed care approach as well. Inpatient care generally lasts for four to six weeks.
The staff at Reasons Eating Disorder Center consists of MDs, LMFTs, RDs, RNs, psychiatrists, psychologists and additional Master’s and PhD-level counselors.

In addition to the above, the organization offers a residential program in Pasadena with the same approaches in a non-medical environment. As eating disorders are often falsely represented as a “women’s disease,” the facility makes special effort to provide gender-specific care for men in recovery as well. Those who complete a primary care program may also step down to outpatient treatment or receive referrals for further support.
