Springfield OhioThe Basics

Reasonable Choices is an outpatient treatment facility in Springfield, Ohio that provides treatment for opiate addiction. Located 25 miles northeast of Dayton, Springfield is also home to Wittenburg University. Reasonable Choices has been in operation for over five years and plans to open a second location in the Springfield area later this year.

Treatment and Staff

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is available for opiate addicts with prescriptions for Suboxone. Prospective clients undergo an assessment through which a Reasonable Choices counselor determines whether they’re a good candidate for MAT. If so, clients meet with a staff physician and receive a prescription for two weeks of medication. The counselor also creates a treatment plan that includes a combination of weekly group and individual therapy.

The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) requires clients to attend group therapy three times a week and individual therapy at least once a week. The IOP typically lasts for 12 weeks after which time clients step down to the standard outpatient track. This less intensive track has clients attending group therapy once or twice a week and individual therapy as-needed. Clients in standard outpatient treatment stay in the program for as long as it’s beneficial.

Clients who successfully complete one month of treatment with consistent group attendance and individual therapy as well as negative results from random drug tests may apply to receive one month of Suboxone at their next doctor’s visit.

Therapy groups at Reasonable Choices usually have fewer than 10 participants. Therapy uses the Matrix Model as well as CBT and Motivation Interviewing (MI). Clients are encouraged to attend outside 12-step meetings, and Reasonable Choices hosts on-site AA/NA meetings each Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The treatment team consists of physicians, RNs, psychologists and addiction counselors with CDC and LCDC credentials. Clinicians are qualified to address co-occurring disorders in therapy and the staff psychiatrist can prescribe medication for mental health diagnoses, but Reasonable Choices also refers clients to nearby mental health clinics for significant mental health diagnoses.

Reasonable Choices maintains a neutral stance on tapering. Those who wish to taper are provided support to do so and those who wish to maintain their Suboxone use are not pressured to taper.

Extras

While Reasonable Choices does not offer a formal aftercare program, clients who’ve completed treatment are encouraged to check in with their counselors periodically for on-going support and insight.

In Summary

Reasonable Choices offers Suboxone MAT for opiate addicts with a full complement of evidence-based group therapy and a comprehensive treatment team. Reasonable Choices may be an especially effective option for those ready to explore the trauma or emotional distress that may have contributed to their addiction and the consequences of it.
