The Basics
R.E.A.C.H., Inc. is based out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin but offers short-term residential treatment known as “fly to recovery” in Costa Rica. The program implements CBT, DBT and the 12 steps, as well as holistic treatment approaches such as acupuncture and expressive therapies aimed at promoting change, healthy choices, a positive mindset and self-empowerment. Treatment is led by experienced addiction counselors in a unique and exotic setting.
Accommodations and Food
Clients stay in a luxury resort that accommodates only 10 clients, allowing for comfort and extensive personal attention. It has private and semi-private room options, and the clients receive complimentary amenities like massages, meditation, yoga and Reiki.
Nutrition is also an important part of treatment and the clients enjoy three gourmet meals a day prepared by an on-site chef. These meals are individualized to suit each clients needs and special dietary requests are taken into account.
Treatment and Staff
This facility utilizes a variety of evidence-based approaches in conjunction with spiritually-based treatments, including AA or NA meetings. A typical day consists of an early morning wake-up for breakfast and chores, followed by a structured schedule of group therapy, psychoeducation lectures and classes, journaling, 12-step work and community service. Time to meet with an assigned counselor for an individual session, or work with the nutritionist on nutritional counseling and meal planning, is also worked into the schedule.
Equine, music and art therapy, recreational activities and psychodrama are incorporated into treatment. Staff facilitates groups on relapse prevention techniques, anger management and aftercare planning, which includes helping clients to a support network within their community and find a sponsor. Programs are designed to be 14 days-long, which is why the schedule is so intensive.
Staff includes Master’s-level therapists with accreditations that include LPC, psychologist, psychiatrist, CADC and LMFT. Since most of the clinicians have a mental health background, clients with a dual diagnosis are welcome.

Programs include transportation to and from the airport and three-month aftercare monitoring.
