Range Mental Health Center Review
Range Mental Health Center (RMHC) was the first organization of its kind in Minnesota. Founded in 1961, and situated in the rural community of Virginia, it’s about three hours and over 200 miles from Minneapolis. RMHC offers a peaceful solace with an array of services available to individuals who require mental health attention and/or substance abuse treatment. RMHC offers both inpatient and outpatient offerings in a total of six treatment facilities in Minnesota. Additionally, RMHC facilitates youth programs such as Adapt, various other community support services and crisis stabilization. The Range Treatment Center (RTC) is RMHC’s residential treatment program for adult men and women hoping to establish and sustain recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction.
Accommodation & Food
Participants in the RTC inpatient program reside at the Donovan Frank Building located in Virginia, Minnesota. There are a total of 16 beds available and the length of the program is 28 days.
RTC provides an engaging media room and residents are allowed scheduled TV and recreational activity time in the evenings. There is a gym available off-site which residents can visit in their leisure time and transportation is provided by the facility. There is not a pool on-site.
Residents are served three meals a day in a central cafeteria. Staff armed with the necessary dietary and nutritional training prepares all of the food. Residents are generally satisfied with the quality of their meals, and unlike other facilities, there is no strict rule against sugar and caffeine.
Treatment and Staff
The RTC provides a broader corrective approach toward the treatment of chemically dependent individuals. If needed, there is a 24-hour, medically monitored detox on-site at RTC and the length of time in detox ranges from one to five days.
The program itself is very 12-step oriented, and offers both individual and group therapy that is often intertwined with other clients who may be strictly seeking outpatient help at RTC. Treatment plans are individualized and dual diagnosis services are available through the Range Mental Health Center’s larger mental health network. Residents may also step down to just outpatient when they have completed the residential program. The size of the therapy groups depends on the client’s preference for day or night scheduling. Sessions are available for either time depending on the individual’s personal circumstances. Topics covered include but are not limited to family issues, anxiety and depression. The goal is a secure establishment of sobriety that also addresses the underlying reasons for substance abuse. Individual counseling is scheduled accordingly and a detailed plan for aftercare is mapped out while the client is still in treatment.
The residential and detox programs at RTC are staffed with licensed nurses, chemically dependency counselors, and mostly female clinical unit assistants. Additionally, there are experienced LADCs on-site equipped to administer Rule 25 Assessments as needed.
Extras
The RTC program is continuously growing along with the needs of the clients. It is soon transitioning from a 28-day program to a 90-day program, in order to meet client needs and is unique because of its overall impact on the community at large through its youth programs like Adapt and various other community support services.
