QuIHN Sunshine Coast Review
Founded in 2005, QuIHN is a non-profit treatment organization with five locations in Queensland, Australia. Located in the town of coastal town of Cotton Tree, the facility provides client and community-centered care for individuals with addiction. QuIHN offers an array of therapeutic services on an outpatient level. It’s worth noting, 12-step is not a component of the programming. However, QuIHN does specialize in dual diagnosis support. Treatment is available by appointment only.
Treatment and Staff
Clients undergo a comprehensive assessment during their first visit then work with QuIHN clinicians to determine their needs and goals. From there, they design a personalized treatment plan. If the client requires detox, QuIHN makes referrals to community partners. The facility offers a holistic treatment approach to treat the “whole person,” integrating a range of therapeutic and medical services. In addition, QuIHN is very active in the community. The facility raises awareness about sexually transmitted diseases and also has a needle exchange program to help reduce viral illnesses.
QuIHN’s multi-pronged treatment approach includes counseling, case management, psychoeducation, skills training, relapse prevention and interventions. The Mental Health and Illicit Substance Education (MAISE) program runs every week for eight weeks. QuIHN seeks to change negative habits and patterns. Clients learn life and job skills and are educated on the effects of various substances. There is also a specialized focus on dual diagnosis clients. The facility educates individuals on the importance of self-care, stress management and mental health care. Clients learn mindfulness meditation in an effort to reduce cravings. QuIHN offers weekly individual sessions with therapists trained in evidence-based methods like CBT, ACT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). They often utilize narrative therapy and solution-focused therapy as complementary practices. Finally, clients participate in group psychoeducational sessions that discuss the disease of addiction.
The team of QuIHN Sunshine Coast is comprised of therapists, psychologists and physicians. As previously mentioned, the facility does provide dual diagnosis support but recommends clients in need of long-term rehabilitation or detox to community partners.
