QuIHN is an Australian treatment network that provides comprehensive care for individuals struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders. Its location in the Burleigh Heads suburb of the Gold Coast in Queensland, specializes in the care of clients with co-occurring mental health conditions like depression and trauma. The facility offers an array of customized medical and therapeutic services including counseling, case management and interventions.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment, clients complete an intake assessment. The team then designs an individualized care plan to address the person’s unique needs and goals. They use the assessment as a baseline for re-evaluation throughout the course of treatment. QuIHN can recommend local detox facilities if necessary.
QuIHN seeks to educate clients and empower them to change their beliefs and habits. Consequently, the facility offers a multifaceted treatment model that integrates evidence-based therapies, case management, psychoeducation and skill building. The facility provides clinical counseling for clients and their families. Clients participate in weekly 50 minute therapy sessions. Therapy is rooted in CBT, ACT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Therapists are also trained in solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy and schema therapy.
The facility offers interactive psycho-educational group sessions that focus on a range of topics including self-motivation and the disease of addiction. Clients learn relapse prevention techniques like stress management and trigger recognition. QuIHN facilitates group sessions on a weekly basis for eight weeks. The sessions are two and a half hours. The MAISE program further supports clients through skill building. Sessions are two hours long for eight weeks.
QuIHN employs a team of counselors, psychologists and physicians. The facility provides medication management for individuals that need dual diagnosis support. It’s worth noting, 12-step recovery is not a part of programming here.
Extras
QuIHN seeks to reduce injury and disease in the community through a strong community outreach program. The facility runs a needle exchange that provides sterile injecting equipment to minimize viral infections.
In addition, QuIHN hosts a number of interventions and awareness events surrounding World AIDS Day.
