Quest Center Portland OrThe Basics

Quest Center for Integrative Health is a nonprofit community health organization located in Portland, Oregon. It was founded in 1989 when two mental health professionals began treating individuals diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. Since then, the facility has expanded to treat many mental health concerns including substance abuse. With a strong commitment to the LGBT community in Portland, Quest Center provides an outpatient treatment program and DUI services with a multidisciplinary and individualized approach that is welcoming to all.

Treatment and Staff

The “Finding and Sustaining Recovery” (FSR) program at Quest Center is an evidence-based program that helps individuals seeking relief from their substance abuse issues. Prior to enrollment in the program, each potential client undergoes a screening process to ensure it is the best treatment option for them. If determined to be a good fit, each individual undergoes a bio-psycho-social assessment with a staff CADC. All counselors work to develop schedules and a plan of action suitable for each client’s needs.

Treatment includes weekly individual and group therapy. All group sessions are gender-specific and sensitive toward sexual orientation and HIV/AIDS status. The FSR program also incorporates acupuncture and off-site 12-step meetings as well as one on-site meeting. Relapse prevention is available to help clients develop awareness about warning signs and triggers. Outpatient groups meet five days a week, Monday through Friday, during the day.  Gender-specific groups are available.

New program attendees participate in the “Breaking Through” group that educates clients about the nature of addiction; the “Digging Deeper” group is for clients further along in their recovery and is dedicated to advanced process topics; and the “Mindful Meditation” group focuses on the importance of spirituality and practice of meditation in recovery.

Quest Center’s FSR II program is designed for individuals who have received a DUI and need to fulfill court-ordered obligations. Working with case managers, clients typically attend the program for 90 days. Depending on the severity of the offense and the requirements of the court, clients and staff create an individualized treatment plan with their counselors.

The FSR II program is flexible and can be completed in the evening or during the day. Ninety days of consecutive sobriety is required to graduate the program, and drug testing and breathalyzer exams are submitted at random to ensure compliance. Clients attend one individual therapy session every other week in addition to two group therapy sessions per week. All groups are structured to be informative and educational, providing clients with essential knowledge about the dangers of drinking and driving and alcoholism.

Staff includes psychologists, LCSWs and Master’s-level mental health practitioners in addition to a full medical team with a doctor of osteopathy, a naturopath, doctors of Chinese medicine, acupuncturists and nurse practitioners.

Extras

Acupuncture is a required form of treatment and Reiki is also offered to clients enrolled in the outpatient program. The alternative therapy options provide non-medicated relief from mood swings, irritability, energy blocks and anxiety during the initial recovery stages.

In Summary

Quest Center employs an integrative, holistic approach to addiction recovery that combines both traditional and alternative treatment methods. Clients seeking affordable outpatient care with a particular focus on LGBT issues and awareness will be well-served by Quest Center’s all-encompassing mental health staff.
