Quality Addiction ManagementThe Basics

With seven locations throughout Wisconsin, Quality Addiction Management is an outpatient facility specializing in medication-assisted substance abuse treatment. It was founded in 1997 by two physicians specializing in addiction medicine who had run successful private practices since 1984. Since its inception, QAM has developed and expanded its practice to include therapeutic techniques in addition to opiate replacement therapy.

Treatment and Staff

All potential clients go through an initial screening to ensure they are an appropriate candidate for medication-assisted treatment. A cumulative history is taken into account as well as the results from a physical exam conducted by a physician. Once approved for treatment, clients are medically detoxed with supervision by a medical doctor. From there, they are referred to their closest clinic where they receive daily doses of Suboxone and outpatient treatment.

The detox clinic is open Monday through Friday from 6 am to 2:30 pm and on Saturdays from 7 am to 10 am. The average dose of medication for clients is anywhere from 25 to 100 mg— dosage  depends on current usage of opiates.

Treatment at QAM can last anywhere from a few months to several years depending on the amount of time a client wishes to remain on Suboxone. All clients develop a treatment plan with a staff psychologist. Clients in the first four weeks of treatment receive individual therapy once per week. After the first month, individual therapy tapers down to biweekly for an amount of time determined by the therapist. Clients further into their treatment only have therapy once per month.

Clients are drug-tested on a regular basis to ensure they are remaining free from any substances with a high abuse potential.  Following initial treatment, clients are assessed yearly to ensure they are healthy and on the proper dosage. Dosage reduction is handled by medical professionals familiar with addiction medicine.

While there are no on-site 12-step meetings, clients are encouraged to attend a fellowship of their choice. Some counselors make meeting attendance a requirement, depending on the individualized treatment treatment plan they have established with their client.

In Summary

Quality Addiction Medicine’s purpose is to relieve clients from active opiate addiction. A trained team of mental health professionals prescribe and monitor Suboxone treatment and provide therapeutic services. While QAM focuses on the mental and physical elements of addiction using individual therapy and detox treatment, clients are strongly urged to continue their recovery journeys through 12-step fellowships.
