Colorado Springs ColoradoThe Basics

Founded in January 2016 in Colorado Springs, Colorado by TaRene Jacobs and Jennifer Luttman, who are both recovering addicts, Push Forward Recovery Center provides safe and structured sober living for women in early recovery. Jacobs is a Master’s-level psychotherapist and Luttman is a Master’s-level CADC. Jacobs is also LENS certified, and clients receive weekly LENS therapy, which helps ease symptoms of trauma. At Push Forward Recovery Center, their mission is to help women build a foundation in recovery while learning to live happy and healthy lives.

Accommodations and Amenities

The 3,777 square foot house, known as Oro Blanco has a 13-bed capacity. There are two double-occupancy rooms, a master suite that holds three women, and a newly renovated basement that accommodates four clients. Oro Blanco is located in an upscale, quiet neighborhood, and the two-story house includes a large garage, backyard and a front lawn with trees. There are four bathrooms, and large common areas. The house is meticulously decorated, adding to a sense of spaciousness. At Push Forward Recovery, there is the belief that living in a nice environment helps the women feel better about their selves.

Clients are responsible for their own groceries, and meals are prepared in one of two fully equipped kitchens. Often the women cook together, and dine family-style in the evenings. The house also boasts new bathtubs and brand new flooring. Amenities include Wi-Fi, Netflix, DVD players, two laundry rooms, a house computer, and a designated outdoor smoking area. Since the house is fairly new, Jacobs and Luttman currently reside there, and oversee operations. Plans are underway to secure a live-in house manager.

Rules and Regulations

Potential clients must have completed detox. While it is preferred that women have completed at least 30 of  residential treatment, clients are admitted on a case-by-case basis. Staff looks for women who value their sobriety, and are willing to implement a 12-step program in their recovery.

During the first 30 days, residents adhere to a 9 pm curfew seven days a week. After that time, the curfew is 10 pm Sundays through Thursdays, and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Residents must be out of the house, 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, Mondays through Fridays (unless they work evening shifts). Other requirements include attending five weekly 12-step meetings and getting attendance cards signed by the meeting’s secretary. Additionally, residents must acquire sponsors within seven days of arrival, and actively work the steps. Other requirements include participating in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), going to school or working.

Women must be at the weekly Sunday night 9 pm house meeting, and complete assigned household cleaning chores. Random drug and alcohol screenings are conducted. At Push Forward Recovery Center, there is a zero tolerance for relapse. Those who drink or use drugs must leave the premises immediately to ensure the safety of the entire household.

Extras

Residents have access to an exercise room and a BioMat, which provides muscle relaxation. Other services besides housing include individual Low Energy Neurofeedback Systems (LENS) therapy sessions, conducted by Jacobs, and offered at no additional cost. Each weekly session lasts approximately ten minutes and works to enhance moods, as well as alleviating the lasting impact of traumatic events.

In Summary

Push Forward Recovery Center is an act of love on the part of two close friends who care deeply about their clients’ recovery. They are very in tune with the needs of newly clean and sober women. The house offers a gorgeous environment, and many extra amenities at a highly affordable cost. For clients suffering from co-occurring disorders, the LENS therapy is a wonderful plus.
