Pure Recovery California Review
Pure Recovery California was established in 2015. Located on the Channel Islands, between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, it offers neuroscience-oriented detox and residential treatment in a luxury setting. Pure Recovery’s multi-disciplinary treatment team includes double board certified physicians and therapists who provide evidence-based cognitive treatment as well as holistic therapies. In addition to substance abuse treatment, Pure Recovery treats sports injuries and chronic pain and is known for its work with professional athletes.
Accommodations and Food
Pure Recovery has 12 residential treatment beds and six beds designated for clients stepping down from residential to day treatment. Clients stay in one of three high-end homes on the Channel Islands waterways. The homes feature gourmet kitchens with stainless steel appliances, Jacuzzis, ocean views, heated pools and high thread-count sheets. Residents usually have private rooms, though each home also has a double occupancy room. Residences also have private gyms and daily maid service. Once they’ve completed detox, clients can use cell phones and personal electronics. A full-time gourmet chef prepares healing juices and gluten-free, organic meals. .
Treatment and Staff
Most residential treatment plans are between 27 and 90 days. Once clients have completed detox (usually five to seven days), they are transported daily via water taxi from their home to the Pure Recovery treatment center. Clients have between five and seven treatment activities each day, which include group therapy, individual therapy, neurofeedback, acupuncture, massage and nutrition education.
Pure Recovery’s treatment foundation is its Pure Recovery Conscious Awareness System (PRCA), wherein the treatment team uses cognitive brain mapping to identify where clients’ health is impaired by their brain function. Therapy uses numerous evidence-based modalities, including CBT, EMDR and somatic experiencing. Clients have individual therapy three to four times each week, and Pure Recovery’s psychiatrists and nursing staff can provide dual diagnosis support.
Clients are encouraged to attend peer support meetings, such as AA/NA or SMART Recovery, and Pure Recovery provides daily transportation to area meetings.
The multi-disciplinary treatment team includes psychiatrists, a neurologist, several LMFTs and CADCs. Pure Recovery also employs a massage therapist, chiropractor and Shaman for spiritual guidance.
After completing their residential treatment plan, clients can continue treatment at Pure Recovery in its Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and/or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Most clients stay in outpatient anywhere from two to 12 weeks. PHP clients attend group therapy each weekday for five hours and IOP clients attend group therapy each weekday for three hours.
Extras
Family members can visit on weekends. Each weekend, staff take clients on outdoors and cultural excursions such as surfing, hiking and museum visits. Therapists create aftercare plans with each client, which may include peer support meetings and on-going therapy. They also make monthly follow-up calls to clients to monitor their progress and provide support.
