Psychological Consultants of MichiganThe Basics

Psychological Consultants of Michigan PC offers outpatient services to adults and adolescents diagnosed with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. PCM clinicians specialize in everything from depression and anxiety to domestic violence and developmental disorders, and are qualified to address both mental health and addiction issues. With three locations in southwest Michigan—in Battle Creek, Albion and Kalamazoo—PCM has been serving local residents since 1991.

Treatment and Staff

The first step in treatment is an assessment facilitated by a staff psychologist. Clients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian during the assessment process and once evaluated, have a signed consent form in order to begin treatment.

While each client is treated on a case by case basis, the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is recommended for individuals who require rigorous services. IOP clients meet four days per week for a total of 10 hours, with individual therapy once a week. CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) are utilized in group sessions and topics include addiction education, 12-step studies and relapse prevention. Specialized groups for families and those with co-occurring disorders are available. Duration of treatment depends on the individual but typical length is four to six weeks. Individuals with co-occurring disorders also see a psychiatrist for medication management.

The adolescent program is available to those who are 13 to 18 and consists of individual therapy sessions one to two times per week and a young people’s substance abuse awareness group, which meets weekly. While family therapy is not mandatory, it is highly recommended.  The adolescent program is facilitated by a psychiatrist with additional certification in child and adolescent psychiatry.

Traditional outpatient clients meet for individual therapy once per week and attend groups twice weekly, totaling six hours of treatment. Group topics are similar to those in IOP with less frequency. Group size in both IOP and outpatient are limited to 10. All sessions are facilitated by MFTs, Master’s-level psychologists and CSACs.

Extras

Each location offers an ADHD clinic for children and their families who are struggling with attention deficit disorder.

Psychological Consultants of Michigan provides comprehensive outpatient services for substance abusers and individuals with co-occurring disorders—regardless of age. With three locations, a highly qualified staff and proven therapeutic modalities, this is an ideal choice for men, women and young people seeking support without committing to residential treatment.
