The Basics
Psychological Services Clinics is comprised of three facilities in the state of Pennsylvania; the main branch in Sunbury and additional branches located in Bloomsburg and Danville. All programs are outpatient-based and are licensed by the Pennsylvania Medical Assistance Program and the Office of Drug and Alcohol Programs.
Founded by Dr. Donna Pinter in 1978, Psychological Services specializes in substance abuse treatment, employee assistance programs, general psychological health and training and wellness programs.
Treatment and Staff
All potential clients seeking substance abuse recovery are encouraged to call the Sunbury offices to schedule an appointment for an assessment. Priority is given to pregnant women and women with children requiring treatment. Clients who are referred to the facility are given an appointment within 72 hours. During the initial appointment, clients are assessed by an intake counselor to determine the acuity of their substance dependence as well as other mental health considerations.
The drug and alcohol program uses an individualized treatment approach that treats each client and their unique needs. Clients who do not require detox and are ready to proceed with treatment are enrolled in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) which is 30 days in duration.
Over the course of 30 days, clients attend a combination of group and individual therapy three days a week. In addition, clients may be required or encouraged to attend 12-step meetings in support of therapeutic services. Family therapy and couples therapy may also be incorporated into recovery based on the therapist’s suggestions and the client’s willingness. Therapists utilize a range of treatment techniques including Cognitive Remedial Therapy and evidence-based practices. Groups and individual sessions include psycho-education, techniques for relapse prevention and behavioral modification. Dual diagnosis support is available for clients who display the need for additional services. Psychological Services also has staff members who are skilled in hypnosis and other alternative techniques.
Each facility is staffed by a diverse group of qualified mental health professionals. Master’s-level and PhDs are on staff as well as LCSWs, LPCs and MFTs. All therapists are qualified to work with substance abuse disorders and may assist in the facilitation of groups.
Extras
In addition to substance abuse treatment and mental health, Psychological Services works with companies and employers to develop employee wellness programs. A therapist works directly with company staff to provide sexual harassment awareness, effective interpersonal skills, anger management, facilitating a drug-free work space and conflict resolution. Human resources management education is available to help employees and employers work well in a professional environment.

Psychological Services Clinics provides an IOP track designed to intervene on damaging behavior affecting the individual and their support systems. Additionally, clients may seek family and couples therapy to better heal relationships and develop wellness in the home environment. Overall, Psychological Services offers programs and training resources to meet the community’s recovery needs with three locations.
