Providence GorgeThe Basics

Providence Gorge Counseling Services provides chemical dependency treatment in Hood River, Oregon. The program is a service of Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital and offers outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), focusing on the 12 steps. The majority of clients are dual diagnosis. The hospital offers detox and inpatient residential treatment as separate programs.

Treatment and Staff

Providence Gorge’s intensive and regular outpatient services are based on 12-step methodology. Clients undergo assessments and evaluations before beginning treatment; once staff assess what  treatment track is appropriate for the client, individualized treatment plans are created.

Length of treatment for IOP is eight weeks or 64 hours of therapy. Clients meet three times a week for group sessions and individual therapy sessions are held monthly (and on an as-needed basis). Clients attend 12-step groups off-site. Continuing care group therapy sessions are held once a week for a minimum of six months after IOP is completed. Treatment includes group therapy, lectures and individual therapy. Providence Gorge also collaborates with community groups to provide volunteer opportunities.

The Friends and Family Program is a highly-recommended component of treatment. Friends and family members are invited to participate in group sessions while the client is in treatment. Family consultations are also available. Outpatient therapy for client-family issues is available in addition to treatment—an hourly rate is charged for sessions with a licensed psychologist or clinical social worker.

The program director, who is a CADC, leads the chemical dependency program with an LCSW. Two psychiatrists and two psychologists see clients who require medication management.

Extras

The Early Interventional Treatment Program at Providence Gorge offers education about substance abuse and its ramifications. The program fulfills state requirements for court-ordered clients.

Staff are on call 24/7 for emergency and crisis intervention. Additional services include psychiatric treatment and outpatient therapy for grief counseling and bipolar disorder. All therapeutic services are available to adults, adolescents and seniors.

In Summary

Providence Gorge Counseling Services is the substance abuse treatment mainstay for the Columbia Gorge area, offering a range of outpatient services with the added bonus of family involvement in group sessions. It has a strong emphasis on the 12-step route to recovery so potential clients who are interested in alternative treatment methods should look elsewhere.
