The Basics
Promises New Jersey is located in the coastal town of Somers Point and provides an intensive Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) individualized for men and women who are struggling primarily with drugs, alcohol or a dual diagnosis. This facility utilizes evidence-based methods like CBT along with holistic approaches in group and individual therapy settings for an engaging and supportive treatment experience.
Treatment and Staff
Length of treatment at this facility is completely dependent upon the person and his or her progress. A majority of the clients do reside at one of the sober living facilities that works with Promises and are driven to and from treatment daily. The day begins around 9 am with a group. While every day differs in terms of topics, there is usually a weekly theme, ranging from self care, self esteem, identifying triggers and anger management to relapse prevention and relationships. Usually the mornings are spent on psychoeducation and process groups, and after lunch there is a focus on more holistic approaches. There are also weekly individual sessions or study groups. Treatment approaches vary in style and include DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), trauma-informed care and EMDR. The day usually ends around 3 pm when the clients are taken back to their sober living house where they journal or do homework.
There are also specialty options for those who enter into treatment with an existing co-occurring disorder, including medication management and targeted therapy groups. Promises does not facilitate 12-step or provide detox but can offer referrals for the latter.
Promises New Jersey boasts a large staff with many years of addiction experience. Credentials include Master’s- level LPC, RN, CADC, LCADC, LCSW and LMFT.
Extras
Holistic offerings include psychodrama, recovery yoga, art or music therapy and other expressive forms of therapy.
There are aftercare planning sessions individualized to each client’s specific needs. This can include a step-down to outpatient treatment. There are family and couples counseling services offered as well.
