The Basics
Located in Fresno, California, Promesa Behavioral Health is a diverse non-profit organization that has provided foster, adoption and substance abuse treatment services to its community since 1988. With a focus on at-risk youth, its addiction program is outpatient-based, CARF-accredited and state-certified, as well as culturally-sensitive.
Treatment and Staff
Conducted on an open-entry basis so there is never a wait to begin treatment, recovery at Promesa starts with a diagnostic screening and assessment so than an individualized plan may be developed. Clients are then referred to either the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or the standard outpatient track, depending on how many treatment hours are deemed necessary.
Promesa’s curriculum relies heavily on peer support and mentoring, with a foundation in group therapy using evidence-based methods. Groups address a range of addiction-related topics including didactic sessions about the disease as well as relapse prevention strategies. Clients with co-occurring disorders can also be accommodated. The staff consists of an LMFT and certified addiction specialists.
Extras
Promesa runs a Level 12 residential program for adolescents, ages 12-17, who are victims neglect, abuse and guardian abandonment. Clients are referred through California’s Department of Children and Family Services and Juvenile Probation. In addition, Promesa offers specialty programs for male sex offenders and pregnant or parenting teens.
