The Basics
Monroe, Michigan’s ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital, formerly known as Mercy Memorial Hospital, offers outpatient substance abuse treatment for adults and adolescents in any stage of alcohol or drug dependency. Those with co-occurring mental health issues can also receive treatment here.
Treatment and Staff
ProMedica’s counselors work with clients in both individual and group therapy sessions using CBT. Treatment typically lasts for 10 to 12 weeks, though this varies on a case-by-case basis. Group sizes range from 10 to 12 clients to a group, with the numbers kept low so that clinicians can offer more individual attention to each group member.
PMRH’s substance abuse program is 12-step based and clients are expected to attend between one and three meetings weekly while in treatment (though in some cases, counselors may require clients to attend daily meetings). On-site meetings are available on Friday evenings and on Sunday, though all other meetings are off-site.
Individual therapy sessions are also available on an as-needed basis. Some clients take part in as many as three individual therapy sessions weekly while others only attend once a week. Clients also participate in one group session per week on Tuesday evening, from 6:30 to 8 pm.
Because the PMRH substance abuse treatment program is located within the hospital, doctors, psychologists and psychiatrists are always available on-site. Detox is not offered, however. In addition to medical staff, PMRH has six CAC clinicians who work with clients.

PMRH offers a family program that provides family counseling to help clients’ loved ones understand the dynamics of substance abuse and dependency.

The program is heavily rooted in the 12 steps and boasts a range of professional and medical staff to help clients with their recovery. Those in need of medical detox services will have to look elsewhere, but for clients who need a basic outpatient option, ProMedica could be a good fit.
