The Basics
Progressive Consumer Counseling is an outpatient counseling agency located in College Park, Georgia. The facility was recently CARF accredited and strives to provide affordable care for adults and their families. In addition to general mental health counseling, PCC also offers substance abuse treatment for adults. The clinical staff use a range of Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) practices to provide treatment that is sensitive to the client’s needs.
Treatment and Staff
PCC provides TIC that incorporates CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Counselors and other staff members work to build a relationship with their clients based on trust and confidence. Prior to admittance, clients undergo a screening process to ensure that outpatient care is the best option for their recovery needs. There are no detox or inpatient services available, but the intake staff provides referrals to recommended facilities. The clinical staff also specializes in dual diagnosis support for clients struggling with co-occurring chemical dependency and mental health disorders.
Once clients are admitted, they meet with their counselor to develop an individualized treatment plan which determines the frequency of their attendance as well as a goal-oriented path. All clients participate in individual therapy sessions with their primary counselor. If the counselor believes the client would benefit from group therapy, attendance is incorporated into their unique track. Groups vary in topic, all utilizing CBT techniques. Clients learn a new set of coping skills, anger management techniques and social skills by interacting on a group level. Some groups utilize psycho-education to inform clients on the nature of addiction and alcoholism.
If recommended, some clients may attend 12-step meetings to supplement their recovery plan. If they are uncomfortable with AA, clients may prefer to attend other forms of community support—including church activities, SMART Recovery and Celebrate Recovery.
Staff credentials include LCSWs, LPCs, Psychologists and Medical Physician.
Extras
In addition to working with clients in an individual and group setting, family therapy is also available. Clients work their counselors and the family unit to develop healthier relationship skills and a living environment that is conducive to recovery.
