The Basics
With locations in Delano, Minneapolis and Buffalo, Minnesota, Professional Counseling Centers are outpatient behavioral health facilities that provide treatment for addiction and co-occurring disorders. Both standard and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are available for court-ordered and self-referred clients.
Treatment and Staff
Before treatment begins, clients undergo an initial intake and assessment so that staff members can develop an individualized treatment plan. The standard outpatient track is typically 90 hours total: 80 spent in group therapy and 10 spent in individual sessions. The IOP meets for a total of 40 hours a week with variable program lengths; similarly, one-on-one time with counselors may vary depending on each client’s needs.
In both cases, programs are rooted in evidence-based practices including CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) with additional support for clients with co-occurring disorders. Clients are also required to participate in a 12-step program as part of treatment.
Staff consists of Master’s and PhD-level LADCs and psychologists.
Extras
In addition to the above, the facility also offers support for clients seeking housing while in the IOP by placing them in local sober living homes. These programs are generally limited to men who are homeless or in an unsafe living situation. Eligibility can be determined by completing a Rule 25 assessment. Other available programs include a relapse prevention track which can be taken as a form of aftercare. Clients meet for a total 48 hours though the specifics may be individualized based on each client’s need.
Those with DUI/DWIs charges can attend a range of programs including state-certified level I and II treatment, as well as driver’s education classes and chemical dependency evaluations. More specialized is an intensive supervised probation program that is the only one of its kind in the county. All participants must have four or more DUI/DWI’s or similar court-orders be invited and go through an initial orientation.
