The Basics
Proceed, Inc. is a small nonprofit organization founded in 1970. The Puerto Rican Organization for Community Education and Economic Development (PROCEED) has three locations in and around Elizabeth, New Jersey with two outpatient programs: an alcohol abuse treatment program and a drug abuse treatment program.
Treatment and Staff
The alcohol abuse treatment program offered by Proceed typically lasts six months and is based on the 12-step model of treatment. The loosely structured general outpatient program requires clients to attend one individual session per week, one weekly group session and one AA meeting per week (attendance must be recorded by meeting secretary and passed on to a staff member). Family members are also encouraged to participate in treatment either in a formal family therapy session or through support at home.
The drug abuse treatment program is typically nine months to a year in duration and is also based on the 12-step model of treatment. The program is comprised of the same basic treatment elements as the alcohol abuse program. Random and regular drug screenings are administered to ensure the client is progressing in treatment.
Both programs require clients to attend aftercare, which consist of one group counseling session per month for six months.
The staff at Proceed consists of LCDCs, CADCs and CASACs.
Extras
In addition to alcohol and drug treatment programs, Proceed also offers treatment for a variety of other behavioral and mental health problems as well community services. Other services include family resources, an HIV/AIDS program, homelessness and unemployment services, utilities and home repair and a national training center.

Proceed, Inc. provides separate treatment tracks for alcohol and drug abuse, both based in the 12-step philosophy. The basic treatment components allow for clients to maintain a regular life and work schedule while still receiving evidence-based treatment from credentialed staff. Though treatment is limited to standard outpatient care, clients are given structured parameters in treatment that include required attendance of 12-step meetings and aftercare.
