Priory Stockton Hall in York is a mixed gender medium security residential facility. Programs are for those with developmental disorders, co-occurring disorders and clients on the autism spectrum. Treatment uses evidence-based approaches, and 12-step support and education. In addition to mental health counseling and interventions, clients have for real world working opportunities and pre-employment training.
Accommodations and Food
Stockton Hall has 88 beds spread throughout seven wards. Clients are divided by diagnosis and gender. The campus is huge and offers several amenities. This includes a gym, recording studio, music room, educational center, Internet suite, woodworking room and rehabilitation kitchen.
Clients eat breakfast, lunch and dinner in the common dining room. Kitchen staff cooks and the menus are healthy. In between treatment activities clients also have a bevy of snacks.
Treatment and Staff
Every client has a customized treatment plan. Programming uses a Harm Reduction model, addresses past legal offenses and behavioral modification for clients with violent behaviors. During both individual and group therapy, clinicians utilize therapeutic methods such as Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), DBT and CBT.
During the week, clients can expect several skills training sessions. This includes cooking, cleaning, overall health and wellness. There are also formal vocational training opportunities, like application support, interviewing skills, and safety classes.
In addition, clients have regular substance abuse support groups and education, mindfulness, anger management, relapse prevention and expressive arts therapy. The music room and recording studio increase client’s engagement in a social manner and in therapeutic settings.
In conjunction with formal therapy, clients also have formal education assessments and a personalized class schedule. These classes take place in the therapy rooms and on the ward. These classes are both formal and informal, and the curriculum includes reading and writing, typing skills and using the Internet.
Finally, clients on the autism spectrum have psycho-educational classes and positive behavior support models along with social skills training.
Stockton Hall’s staff is comprised of psychiatrists, occupational therapists, nurses and social workers.
Extras
Some of the real work placement opportunities include the campus cafe, maintenance work on campus, gym cleaning, retail management and ordering stock.
Clients also enjoy holistic approaches and activities such as therapeutic animal care and horticultural therapies.
