The Knightsbridge House and Solent House is part of the Priory network of treatment facilities in Hampshire. Treatment at Knightsbridge House is for adult men with a primary diagnosis of mental illness along with learning disabilities or a history of substance abuse. Solent House is a smaller program for men and women who are starting to transition to independent living. Clients learn life skills and have therapy in a group and individual setting. All clients have individualized treatment plans that use evidence-based and holistic approaches.
Accommodations and Food
Both Knightsbridge House and Solent House are on the same campus. Knightsbridge has nine beds while Solent offers four. Clients in both facilities have private, en suite bathrooms. The communal spaces include a large dining and living rooms, and game room. There are also computer rooms in both homes that clients use several times a week. The grounds have gardens that are used for horticulture projects, and quiet outdoor spaces for meditation.
Both facilities have training kitchens. The houses encourage clients to prepare their own meals and snacks.
Treatment and Staff
The Knightsbridge House and Solent House provide the necessary skills to move towards independence. Knightsbridge focuses more on recovery with both a locked and open environment, while Solent House simulates a supported living home.
Treatment uses a strength based and positive approach. Each treatment plan is customized. Clients play an active role in their treatment programs and planning. Additionally, family members are also included in all stages of treatment along the way.
The program includes community service and work placement. Group therapeutic activities include a drama club and equine therapy. Therapeutic approaches are CBT, DBT, and expressive therapies. The treatment team also incorporates relapse prevention, medication management and nutritional education.
The staff that oversees these programs are psychologists, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, charge nurses, language and speech therapists, dietitians, RNs, support staff and medical assistants.
Throughout treatment clients go on weekend outings to work out at the gym and go swimming, and to local coastal or rural places. Clients take college courses or have vocational training and placement opportunities.
In addition to traditional therapies, clients have animal assisted therapy and art therapy activities.
Priory’s Knightsbridge and Solent House programs are ideal for clients who are in the process of stepping down to less intensive care. Regardless of their diagnosis, clients have daily support and comprehensive treatment plans. The overall theme of these programs is setting up a successful future.
