The Priory Group is a well known network of addiction and mental healthcare facilities throughout the UK. It has a facility in North London that offers several services, including an inpatient track for young people suffering from a behavioral health issue or crisis. Treatment is for those who are between the ages of 12 and 18. It’s a safe, upscale residential program that uses evidence-based practices and psychiatric services for mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD and some eating disorders. A multidisciplinary team of highly trained and experienced clinicians individualizes treatment for each client.
Accommodations and Food
The entire facility houses up to 49 clients in total, with the adolescent and young adult wing offers 22 beds. Though the treatment facility is in a hospital, one could never tell by the living quarters. All of the clients of this age group have their own bedrooms with en suite bathrooms.
They share several common areas throughout the facility. There is a game room with board games, table tennis and foosball available. The campus is on a couple acres of land that includes a peaceful park, several private gardens and is close to airports and tube stations.
Additionally this facility has its own on-site restaurant. It serves three meals a day and sets out snacks for their clients. The meals are very healthy but also considered comfort food. The staff can accommodate any dietary restriction as well.
Treatment and Staff
The young people’s program at the North London location is able to accommodate clients who appear to be in the midst of a mental health crisis on the same day as the request, and offers a free assessment that requires no commitment. The adolescent program also offers continued education for all their clients to make sure they don’t fall behind in school if applicable.
Similar to the adult track, the younger clients have individual therapy a couple times per week, and several group sessions per day. This program uses a collaborative approach with the clients families to make sure they are receiving the best care possible.
Clinicians utilize a combination of traditional mental health treatment modalities and holistic approaches. There is also a specific focus on OCD and trauma care. Therapies include CBT, DBT, EMDR, Mindfulness, Schema Therapy, and compassionate mind groups. They also use Expressive therapies like psychodrama, creative writing and art therapy.
The staff of the young persons’ program at the North London location includes nurses, psychologists, CBT therapist and OCD specialists.
Extras
There is a family program that includes counseling within a group and private setting. Several recreational outings and activities are folded into each treatment day.
In Summary
The young person program at the North London location has age appropriate treatment methods within a very safe, peaceful and private space in the hospital. During their programs clients address any traumas or incidents while receiving thorough and caring treatment. While the idea that one’s young son or daughter is having a mental health crisis is a scary thought, it is nice to know there are facilities like this one that are able to offer help.
