The Basics
85 Brecan Road is a private, women’s only residential care facility through Priory Hospital. Located in Abergavenny, 85 Brecan Road is one of the step-down facilities for mental health clients. During treatment clients receive person centered and holistic programming. They are also part of the treatment planning with the care providers. Treatment includes learning several life skills and focusing on relapse prevention.
Accommodations and Food
The residential facility is a five bedroom community house. Clients each have their own rooms. Each of the bedrooms also contains an en suite, full bathroom. The facility is close to local attractions and shopping areas. The home has modern furnishings and comfortable, spacious communal areas. The shared lounge has a TV and several couches. There is also a shared dining room and kitchen. Lovely gardens surround the campus.
The kitchen staff serves clients three meals per day. Though part of their treatment involves learning how to make their own meals, while in the program 85 Brecan takes care of preparing food for them.
Treatment and Staff
Because this is a step-down program, a main element is life skills training sessions. Clients learn how to budget money, clean, cook and go shopping for themselves. There are healthy eating seminars and personal hygiene classes as well.
Once in the program, clients settle in and within two days have an assessment. Throughout treatment clients work with staff on their progress through the program. On average clients stay at 85 Brecan Road between six months and two years.
During treatment clients also receive vocational training and opportunities to advance their educations. They have real-world experiences frequently and venture out into the community as a group.
Since there are only five adult women in the program at one time, there is a lot of personal attention. There are both one on one sessions and group activities.
Clients can expect psychiatric services provided throughout treatment. Clients meet with a consulting psychiatrist for medication management on a regular basis.
Staff includes an occupational therapists, psychiatrist, nursing staff and in-home support staff.

Clients have access to the local gym on a daily basis.
