The Basics
Located on the picturesque Pier 39 in Astoria, Oregon, Potentials is a small outpatient facility situated atop the Columbia River. This mindfulness-based program was founded in 2007 and is owned and operated by Dana Dedolph, MA LPC. With three decades of experience, Dedolph has training in addiction treatment, DBT, Internal Family Systems, Analytical Psychology, Developmental Psychology and Interpersonal Neurobiology. Dedolph stresses possibility in her literature: the possibility of successful sobriety, the possibility of repairing relationships and the possibility of dealing effectively with a loved one’s addiction.
Treatment And Staff
Potentials is a state-licensed outpatient alcohol and drug treatment facility that offers DUI services, dual diagnosis treatment, aftercare and relapse prevention. Treatment begins with an in-person mental health and addictions assessment; referrals are offered if needed.
Potentials’ treatment plan is a 12-week, mindfulness-based program which helps clients get and remain sober. The first four weeks include group therapy once a week for three hours and the last eight weeks are one-and-a-half hours of mixed-gender group therapy. There is a strong 12-step/step study component to the therapy, focusing on the challenges of early sobriety, self-acceptance and dealing with emotional memory. Depending on progress and needs, clients may be recommended for individual sessions after the 12-week program is over.
Led by Dedolph, groups are small, allowing clients to address issues communally, intuitively and methodically, guided by shared experiences.
Extras
Dedolph believes that recovery is more attainable with family involvement, so Potentials provides therapy for families and loved ones of addicts, offering a six-week coaching class for parents. Outpatient clients with a relative in the family program receive a discount for their own therapy. In addition, Potentials offers real-world strategies for legally-entangled clients to deal effectively with the criminal justice system. Potentials also provides treatment for co-dependency, PTSD and depression.
