The Basics
Based out of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, Positive Start Counseling is an outpatient-based counseling facility that provides flexible help for clients struggling with substance abuse and other behavioral health issues. Treatment plans are open to children, adolescents and adults alike, each with individualized care planning to suit any number of schedules.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all participants go through an initial consultation and assessment to help the staff determine their needs and design their care plan. As a non-medical or psychiatric facility, on-site detox and stabilization services are not available (though referrals can be made upon request).
As mentioned, all treatment plans are individualized and as such there is no standard care regimen. Still, therapy options include both group and individual therapy with a range of evidence-based treatment practices including CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and EMDR. Whenever necessary, couples and family therapy sessions are also available. Participants can attend therapy for any number of needs including anxiety, anger management, women’s issues, depression, substance abuse, dual diagnosis issues, PTSD and other related issues. Group therapy is available on a rotating basis and typically deals with specialized issues, such as women’s wellness and adolescent issues.
Though basic support for dual diagnosis issues is available, those in need of more thorough supervision may want to seek further aid elsewhere. Similarly, 12-step support may be encouraged in some cases but it isn’t always required.
The staff at Positive Start Counseling consists primarily of Michelle Fyfe and Natalie Rothman, both of whom are LMHCs with specializations in addiction medicine.
Extras
The organization can also offer DUI/DWI classes as necessary as well as telehealth counseling for those who can’t attend therapy in person. In some cases, in-home companionship and counseling can also be provided. Special sensitivity and support for LGBTQ issues is also available. As all programs are flexible and individualized, those who complete primary care can also work with the staff to develop step-down aftercare plans as necessary.

In all, Positive Start Counseling is a well-rounded behavioral health facility with flexible help for a number of different issues. Treatment includes both individual and group therapy with evidence-based counseling, individualized care planning and flexible scheduling. Couples and family therapy is also included, along with DUI/DWI classes for court-ordered clientele. Although anyone in need of more thorough supervision or psychiatric aid may need to seek help elsewhere, Positive Start Counseling remains a strong resource for those in the area.
