Philadelphia based Positive Mind and Body is a private practice that was founded by two mental health professionals who trained at the Children’s Hospital, and wanted to offer their community a safe place for adolescents and adults to seek professional behavioral health treatment. Positive Mind and Body treats all different kinds of mental illnesses and disorders, including addiction, eating disorders, depression, anxiety and stress. In addition to treating individuals, Positive Mind and Body also specializes in treating couples and providing group therapy and medication management services using evidence-based approaches and the 12 steps.
Treatment and Staff
At the initial meeting, clients have an evaluation with their counselor to establish what their treatment needs and goals are. Since Positive Mind and Body treats so many different issues, there are a number of evidence-based approaches used, and every client has a customized treatment plan.
Every client, regardless of their age, receives an evaluation with a board certified psychiatrist on staff and, if necessary, are able to receive medications to help deal with their mental illnesses or concerns. Throughout their time in treatment every client works to achieve the goals set at the initial session, work on communication, self esteem and rebuilding their self image. In some cases each client’s primary therapist works in conjunction with other clinicians, like a nutritionist, primary physician, social workers and teachers if needed.
There are a number of group sessions held throughout the week at the facility, and for those who are seeking treatment for addiction or substance abuse, they are encouraged to attend regular AA or NA meeting within their communities and obtain a sponsor. Treatment consists of CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care, mindfulness based methods, Family Systems Therapy, anger management, stress reduction and relapse prevention strategies. For younger clients it is also imperative that parents are included in treatment throughout every phase.
There is a small staff at Positive Mind and Body—all medical professionals who specialize in behavioral issues. This include psychiatrists, LPCs and clinical psychologists.
The focus of treatment at Positive Mind and Body is learning how to care for one’s self during difficult and challenging experiences. The team is highly trained and offers expertise within a caring and safe environment. There are several different treatment options for all ages and for all concerns.
