The Basics
Since 1994, Positive Growth, Inc. has been providing mental health and support services to children, adults and families in Clarkston, Georgia. A suburb of Atlanta, Clarkston is a diverse town of 8,000, with some estimates claiming that over half of its population was born outside of the United States. PG provides counseling and intervention services in an outpatient setting for adults and adolescents seeking substance abuse treatment.
Treatment and Staff
After an assessment, clients are given an individualized treatment plan that combines group therapy once a week and individual therapy as-needed. Adolescents attend group therapy Wednesday afternoons and adults attend groups on Wednesday evenings. All sessions use CBT and usually have fewer than 15 participants. Groups are led by addiction counselors including CADCs, but clients with co-occurring disorders can also receive therapy from Master’s-level therapists. This basic outpatient track does not require attendance of 12-step meetings, but clients are encouraged to seek out peer-support groups on their own.
Extras
PG maintains a residence in Clarkston that provides housing for youth in transition from addiction treatment to autonomy. It hosts several therapeutic programs such as anger management and parenting classes and provides family therapy and medical screenings. It also offers a domestic violence intervention program and DUI evaluations.
