PORT Health Review

PORT Health is a network of addiction and mental health care centers with several locations throughout North Carolina. Adults dealing with substance abuse or suffering from acute mental illness can do one of two specific outpatient tracks. These services include group and individual therapy, and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). Clients in the substance abuse track have the option of participating in the Intensive Outpatient program (IOP). PORT Health uses evidence-based protocols and 12-step, and offer follow up services along with educational programs.

Treatment and Staff

The adult IOP is available at each of the outpatient clinics through PORT Health. The IOP can serve those who recently left a crisis care or inpatient program, or can be the first step in treatment.

The IOP typically consists of treatment three to five days per week. Each treatment day is three to four hours of programming. This track is flexible to accommodate clients work and home lives, as there are day and evening hours available.

Often times clients in the IOP are also in the MAT program. This program utilizes Methadone and Buprenorphine. Clients in this program have regular visits with their psychiatrist along with individual therapy with their primary therapist.

Common therapeutic approaches include CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET). There are continued support services that aid in clients reintegration to their communities, job assistance and other needs.

Staff is comprised of medical doctors, LPCs, LCSWs, psychiatric nurses, psychologists and psychiatrists.

Extras

There are some clinics that offer a crisis program. Each of these facilities has 25 beds for adults who are in need of stabilization. This can include MAT, symptom management and counseling.

Additional adult services includes court ordered treatment services, screenings and a program for frequent offenders. This combines education, counseling and substance abuse treatment. A portion of these services can include child care.

In Summary

There are several different treatments offered at all the facility locations, along with case management services. CARF accredited, PORT Health aims to help their clients not only stabilize but raise their self esteem and return to their communities with confidence.
