Pomona Community Crisis CenterThe Basics

Founded in 1974, Pomona Community Crisis Center is a non-profit outpatient facility that offers affordable substance abuse services for low-income qualified clients in the Los Angeles, California area. The rehab is funded by the LA County Department of Health Services, so clients must be Los Angeles County residents to qualify for treatment. This center accommodates Spanish-speaking as well as criminal justice clients.

Treatment and Staff

As the name suggests, Pomona Community Crisis Center’s services often begin with a client in crisis. This center offers crisis intervention services for individuals and families in LA County dealing with abuse, violence, legal issues and drugs. For those who are required to seek treatment or those who are just looking for help on their own, the process begins with an intake interview. A counselor collects information about each individual’s substance abuse in order to make a recommendation for treatment.

Using a social model approach, weekly treatment includes individual therapy, group therapy and educational classes. Group and class topics include relapse prevention, life skills and substance abuse awareness. Treatment length varies per client’s needs. While detox services are not available on-site, referrals are provided to clients when appropriate. Dual diagnosis support is provided.

There are five to nine licensed counselors on staff. Since caseloads vary on a week-by-week basis, the number of clients fluctuates. Pomona Community Crisis Center offers free services to those on general relief. For those who are not on cash aid, the cost is $50 for an assessment and $30 per week.

Extras

Pomona Community Crisis Center has a 20-week certified Drug Diversion Program. Offered in both English and Spanish, classes educate clients on the use and misuse of drugs. The Drug Diversion Program costs $30 for enrollment and includes the first week of classes. The cost is $29 for the following 19 weeks. Random urine toxicology screening is available for those who require drug testing.

The center also offers a 10-to-32 week anger management program for men, as well as a 52-week co-ed domestic violence batterers’ counseling and education program. Both programs are provided at a minimal cost.

Pomona Community Crisis Center promotes awareness on the correlation between HIV, unsafe sex and drug abuse. HIV testing sites are posted on their Facebook page, and clinics also come to the rehab and offer free HIV testing.

In Summary

For those seeking more comprehensive substance abuse services as well as a 12-step approach, Pomona Community Crisis Center might not be the right match. That being said, the rehab works to help financially challenged clients in LA receive substance abuse treatment services.
