The Basics
Pleasant Counseling offers therapeutic services in Decatur, Illinois. Operating primarily as a private practice owned by Diane Pleasant (MA, LCPC, CADC), Pleasant Counseling has provided adults and adolescents with clinical counseling services for mental health and outpatient care for substance abuse and DUIs since 2002.
Licensed through the Division of Alcoholism and Addiction (DASA) in Illinois, PC is dedicated to providing a comfortable environment for clients who seek affordable and personalized treatment using individual and group therapy.
Treatment and Staff
Serving both adult and adolescent clients, PC is an intimate environment where clients receive assistance for substance abuse issues. All clients are required to undergo an initial bio-psycho-social assessment to determine an appropriate level of care. Additional concerns can be addressed through private counseling sessions including dual diagnosis support and outside referrals. Each client’s recovery program requirements are individualized to avoid a “cookie-cutter” approach. Programs include psychoeducation classes, a DUI evaluation, DUI education courses and a three-level substance abuse outpatient program.
First-time DUI offender clients enroll in a 10 hour education program. The evaluation process costs $125 and includes a urinary analysis to ensure court processes are heeded. Clients are evaluated for 90 minutes and must complete a written examination. The exam includes documentation of each client’s substance use, lifestyle choices and the details of their conviction. Enrolled clients attend 10 hours of psychoeducation classes with each class focused on the dangers of prolonged alcohol and drug use and the risks of driving while intoxicated. This program fulfills court obligations and can be used towards license reinstatement.
Outpatient services are divided into three tiers of treatment options. The first is the early intervention program—a 12 hour track that offers individual and group therapy sessions. The second tier—a 20-hour track—is more intensive and ideal for clients who have been in treatment before and are seeking check-ins and sobriety maintenance. The third tier is most intensive—a 75-hour program tailored to individuals struggling with moderate to severe substance abuse issues.
Substance abuse groups are held at 6 pm on Tuesdays, 4 pm on Wednesdays and 9 am on Thursdays. Each group is two hours in length and is led by a staff CADC. A Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) group is facilitated which meets once a week for 13 weeks and uses CBT. Clients do not have to attend every group, but must choose one that works best with their schedule and other obligations. Clients are given homework and must complete weekly assignments.
Extras
In addition to substance abuse treatment, PC offers marriage and family counseling. Counselors specialize in guiding clients through anxiety, depression and confusion to find more clarity in their recovery. Parenting and teen behavioral issues are addressed as well as compulsive behaviors and PTSD.
